This past summer I took a trip to San Diego, California. It has always been a dream of mine to go out to California. Once arriving I was in such shock. The weather was so nice compared to Pennsylvania. It was 75 but felt like 65, let me tell you I was in heaven. San Diego had such a relaxed vibe which was really nice. I stayed at an Airbnb and for my first time I could say that I was pleasantly surprised. It was really nice and very affordable especially for the location of the place! It was about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic to Mission Beach. There were also many restaurants nearby and a mall not far away either. The one thing that I really liked was the metro system. It was more cost effective than ordering an Uber to travel everywhere we needed to go. The one great thing with Uber in San Diego was Uber pull, which is where you take a ride with another passenger for a cheaper price.
The first place I went to was the Gaslamp Quarter which was about 10 minutes away from the house. As soon as I arrived it instantly reminded me of Savannah, Georgia with a little twist of New York City. There was many boutiques and a wide range of restaurants and bars. Down in the Gaslamp Quarter they had bikes that took people to a destination and each bike was different, different lights, different music, and different hilarious “drivers”. That same day I took a trip to the mall and it was actually pretty big. It was all outdoors so it almost reminded me of an outlet, but outdoor malls are common in California which I didn’t realize. The only disappointment with buying clothes there was the tax. Tax in California is way higher than it is in Pennsylvania which took me by total shock.
While I was there I took a day trip to Los Angeles. Los Angeles was so nice, the street dancers were awesome. Sadly, I didn’t see any celebrities, but I did see Beverly Hills which was equally as awesome. Beverly Hills was so nice and ‘boujee’, everywhere I looked there was some sort of luxurious store. There was a numerous amount of cool sights to see like Paramount Studios, Rodeo Drive, Jimmy Kimmel’s Live recording building, and many more sights. The best sight to see was the Hollywood sign, if you ever go make sure you get to see that! I wish I spent more time there, LA was definitely my cup of tea.
I also took a trip to Mission Beach and Balboa Park. Mission Beach was pretty, but not what I expected. There was this one restaurant that I ate at which was outside and the ground was sand. It was so beachy, I have never been somewhere like that before. At Balboa Park there were many vendors and museums. I went into the MOPA, the admission was just a donation so you basically paid whatever you wanted to get in. The art in there was so pretty and the little gift shop was adorable. There was also a nice little coffee shop but I sadly didn’t get to stop in since it was packed. I also went to the San Diego Zoo, which was a great place to stop by at. Who knew the San Diego Zoo was the size of about 4 football fields? Insane, but worth it. The best part was that there was a bus that drove you around for free and took you to different spots at the zoo. I loved having the opportunity to get to see all the different types of animals that I wouldn’t be able to see in PA.
In the moment I wasn’t too sure on how I felt about San Diego. Looking back and not being there has made me realize how much I actually did enjoy it. I would definitely travel back to San Diego, but not for awhile. California is huge and each area has its own type of “city culture” per say. I can’t wait to travel to different places in California someday!
